Chapter 59: Surah Al-Hashr (The Exile)

Chapter 59: Surah Al-Hashr (سورة الحشر)
Meaning: The Exile | Has 24 Verses | Revealed In: Medina (Madani Surah)
1. سَبَّحَ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ
Whatever is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Allah. And He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.
2. هُوَ الَّذِي أَخْرَجَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ مِن دِيَارِهِمْ لِأَوَّلِ الْحَشْرِ ۚ
It is He who expelled the disbelievers among the People of the Book from their homes at the first gathering.
3. وَلَوْلَا أَن كَتَبَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْجَلَاءَ لَعَذَّبَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا ۖ
Had Allah not decreed exile for them, He would have certainly punished them in this world.
4. ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ شَاقُّوا اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ ۖ
That is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger.
5. مَا قَطَعْتُم مِّن لِّينَةٍ أَوْ تَرَكْتُمُوهَا قَآئِمَةً عَلَىٰ أُصُولِهَا فَبِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ
Whatever you cut down of palm trees or left standing on their trunks, it was by Allah’s permission.
6. وَمَا أَفَاءَ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِ مِنْهُمْ فَمَا أَوْجَفْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ خَيْلٍ وَلَا رِكَابٍ
Whatever Allah restored to His Messenger from them—you did not spur for it any horse or camel.
7. مَّا أَفَاءَ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْقُرَىٰ
What Allah has bestowed upon His Messenger from the people of the towns is for Allah and His Messenger.
8. لِلْفُقَرَاءِ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ الَّذِينَ أُخْرِجُوا مِن دِيَارِهِمْ
It is for the poor emigrants who were driven out of their homes.
9. وَالَّذِينَ تَبَوَّؤُوا الدَّارَ وَالْإِيمَانَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ
And (also) for those who settled in Medina and embraced the faith before them.
10. وَالَّذِينَ جَاءُوا مِن بَعْدِهِمْ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا
And those who came after them say, “Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith.”
11. أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ نَافَقُوا
Have you not seen the hypocrites?
12. لَئِنْ أُخْرِجُوا لَا يَخْرُجُونَ مَعَهُمْ
If they are expelled, they (the hypocrites) will not go out with them.
13. لَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ رَهْبَةً فِي صُدُورِهِم مِّنَ اللَّهِ
You (believers) strike more fear in their hearts than Allah.
14. لَا يُقَاتِلُونَكُمْ جَمِيعًا إِلَّا فِي قُرًى مُّحَصَّنَةٍ
They will not fight you all together except in fortified towns.
15. كَمَثَلِ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ قَرِيبًا
They are like those who tasted the consequences before them.
16. كَمَثَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ إِذْ قَالَ لِلْإِنسَانِ اكْفُرْ
Like Satan who said to man: “Disbelieve!”
17. فَكَانَ عَاقِبَتَهُمَا أَنَّهُمَا فِي النَّارِ
So the end for both of them is that they will be in the Fire.
18. يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ
O believers! Be mindful of Allah.
19. وَلَا تَكُونُوا كَالَّذِينَ نَسُوا اللَّهَ
And do not be like those who forgot Allah.
20. لَا يَسْتَوِي أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ وَأَصْحَابُ الْجَنَّةِ
Not equal are the companions of the Fire and the companions of Paradise.
21. لَوْ أَنزَلْنَا هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ عَلَىٰ جَبَلٍ
Had We sent down this Qur’an upon a mountain...
22. هُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ
He is Allah—there is no god except Him—Knower of the unseen and the seen.
23. هُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ الْمَلِكُ الْقُدُّوسُ
He is Allah—there is no god except Him—the Sovereign, the Most Holy.
24. هُوَ اللَّهُ الْخَالِقُ الْبَارِئُ الْمُصَوِّرُ
He is Allah—the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner.
